Landfill is a big hole dug into ground that put rubbish in it .When it fills up the machines will squashed down to put more rubbish. When the landfill used up, they will put soil on it to make it into parks etc.But when the rubbish rots it produce methane gas. This kind of gas can be dangerous and the chemical formula is known as (CH4)It is the simplest alkane, and the principal component of natural gas.The gas can easily burn and it can explode, also it is one of the strongest green house gases. There is two main ways to dealing the methane gas are to burn it off called "flaring" or to used it as a fuel.
Bores are drilled down into the rubbish, and piped up methane gas to test for quality and quantity. If it's enough and pure it can be collected and used.If not it will be flared off.Auckland landfills should produce enough electricity for nine thousand homes.(The concentration of methane gas does not exceed 25% of the landfill gas)
Extra Imformation:
Methane gas:(Melting Point):-182.5° C (-296.5° F) Boiling Point: -161.5°C
This is what we can put into our recyling bin:
Yes.

The Four "Rs"
There are four main ways to reduce the amount of rubbish that ends up in landfill sites. They are some times called "the four Rs"
Refuse:To ignore someone that want to do something.
I refuse plastic bags because it can pollute the earth.
Reduce: Using less of things that will throw away.
I am trying to reduce my rubbish as much as I can for my science fair.
Reuse:Use things more than once.
Cloth bags can be washed and reuse again and again and better than plastic bags.
Recycle:Torn old things that will throw away into new things that can used again.
We can recycle plastic bottles, paper and glass to reduce the rubbish we have.
